BUYERS’ REMORSE
(post-partum depression from too much election)
There seems to be a certain amount of buyers’ remorse floating around right now. Some, might call it a form of post-partum depression form too much election. Much of it driven by the extremes of campaign rhetoric we’ve had to endure for so many of those campaign months. Rhetoric that bordered on the rabid, by applying all sorts of isms-labels to various candidates. Labels attempting to paint political opponents as somehow dangerous, if not the antithesis of everything we call….American.
Even during this transitional stage, where the incoming President-elect is busy putting together the best possible team of expertise, to help him prioritize and face up to the heavy load of problems and difficulties our nation faces in the coming months, we’re still seeing and hearing the same nasty rhetoric flows as we had during the campaigns. To what extent this is just racism disguised as ideological differences is hard to say. Frankly, there’s no denying there is still a strong undercurrent of it, despite the euphoria of having, supposedly, crossed over some sort of righteous threshold, that’s finally leading us away from that past dismal history.
So, for purposes of clarity, here below are revised definitions for some of those pejorative labels being used to describe the President-elect. These are:
1) Marxist – meaning: “You’ll damn well get only what we’ll let you have!”
2) Communist – meaning: “You’ll get some…but we’ll keep the rest!”
3) Socialist – meaning: “Whatever you’ve got…others must have their fair share.!”
(note here: a Socialist is a Communist in drag)
4) Fascist – meaning: “The State is us….and comes first!”
5) Capitalist – meaning: “I’ve got mine, Mac….go get your own!”
6) Libertarian – meaning: “Whatever I’ve got…is none of your damned business!”
7) Anarchist – meaning: “I’ve got nothin’, so…stop the world…and let me off!”
Indeed, from the cacophony coming from all sides, it seems our President-elect is some sort of monstrous hybrid combination of all of these labels. While logic suggests this is a totally impossible composition, it may in fact be the reality of our American system today. That is, it is, or has become, just such a weird combination! He is simply a reflection of it.
Well, there are some other label definitions that may also apply here. These are:
a) Theocracy – meaning: “There’s only one God, but if you don’t choose ours, you’ll get zilch!”
b) Democracy – meaning: “The people rule, even if they’re too sheep-brained to know how!”
c) Autocracy – meaning: “ Rule by one smartass control freak over everyone else!”
d) Oligarchy – meaning: “ Rule by a syndicate of fat-cats!”
e) Monarchy – meaning: “ Rule by a family-run enterprise where only in-laws get any goodies!”
f) Aristocracy – meaning: “Rule by an inbred, blue-blooded bunch of schizophrenics!”
g)Meritocracy – meaning: “Rule by the best of talents, even if these aren’t what’s needed!”
h)Totalitarian – meaning: “Rule where everything not forbidden is strictly compulsory!”
i) Republican – meaning: “ Rule where the people are free to hire agents to do it for them!”
If none of this makes any sense, keep in mind, it is no more nonsensical than all this negative yapping about a President-elect who has yet to be sworn in. We’ll just have to wait and see how he performs, before pinning any labels on him. For those who are unable to do so, my only suggestion is….either take some Prozac….or head for….Canada.
