The Last Debate

WHAT SUPPORT?

Last night’s debate between the two major party candidates had one glaring deficiency. There was absolutely no mention of any kind about veterans’ issues.
Neither Senator Obama nor Senator McCain touched on them.

Never having served, Senator Obama’s indifference is understandable. But, having served, and suffered much from that service, Senator McCain’s unconcern is not.
The only conclusion one can draw from this is this: Neither one could care less about veterans, or issues affecting them, because, the American people don’t either! If our own people couldn’t care less….why should we expect career pols like Obama and McCain to care?

Granted, we have some very serious economic and financial situations right now, situations that are having a severe impact on everyone. But that’s still no excuse.
More than 4000 young Americans are dead. Thousands more have been physically and emotionally mangled by the Iraq and Afghan Wars. Should these be ignored?

As for those who served their country in Vietnam, in Korea, and as far back as WWII, they too have suffered the same indifference and unconcern. It has ever been thus.

It’s a cruel reality we face, my fellow veterans. We serve, have served, and may yet serve, a people, a government, a nation without honor. They only “support the troops” while they’re in harm’s way. Once home again….veterans are just like old hound dogs who’ve forgotten their place, daring to come into the house, while the folks are entertaining guests in the front parlor. They are….an inconvenient…. embarrassment.

As far as I’m concerned neither Senator Obama nor Senator McCain deserve our votes.
