Racing Down To The Wire

RACING DOWN TO THE WIRE
(but the fat lady ain’t ready to sing yet)

Listening to the media, and various political pundits of one kind or another, one might be justified in thinking this presidential race is all but over, needing only a few yodels from a fat lady…to make it official (apologies to Kate Smith). But, unless one of the major contenders either breaks a leg at the last minute, just yards from the finish line; or, keels over from too much political exertion and drama, the race will go on to the bitter end and, perhaps, beyond.

It’s unfortunate but, the way this contest is shaping up, we taxpaying voters may be in for another post-election round of partisan contentions, nit-picking bickering, along with a blizzard of lawsuits of one kind or another, regardless of what the results may be.

Just as in 2004 the bi-polar political disorders of our society will be reflected in such squabbles, with screams of outrage from those who will claim to have been “robbed”, while those from the other end of the political spectrum will be hollering about “racism”. The election will be that close.

All of which means that the odds of either of these contenders getting a clear and absolute majority are ….slim, and thereby, increasing the likelihood the question will have to ultimately be resolved in….the House of Representatives. It’s an eventuality we just can’t ignore (lord save us all!). And given the House’s current composition (keeping in mind that any newly elected members won’t be sworn in until after January 1st), the Obama-bots would probably be thrilled by such a development. The McCain-ites, on the other hand, might just have impotent hissy-fits galore right on the House floor, if that ends up being the case.

Well, truth be told, none of us relish that thought either, but at least it would have the advantage of putting an end to this round of political warfare. No one could argue with it. The House’s decision would be final. The Constitution being the ultimate and final authority about that. In any event, we’re tired of it all. Besides, we have more pressing economic and financial worries to be concerned about. Some, have even gone so far as to say – it’s of no interest to us, and we don’t vote ! –

A depressing attitude. One which makes me wonder if such people are clear on the concept of what a republic like ours is all about? Apparently not. Well, if that’s their attitude, our only advice to them is this: If you DON’T vote…you DON’T COUNT, and, you deserve everything you don’t get. So… shut up and be quiet! Period.

Meanwhile, god bless us all, and god bless these United States of America. Whatever results from this election…we’ll need all the blessing and help we can get.
