The Economy

THE CENTURION CHRONICLE
Vol. III – Issue #38 – Dec 2008

LOOKING FOR A WAY UP….ON A DOWN ESCALATOR
(surrounded by a cloud of deflated bubbles)

While our Congress continues with its frantic search for an appropriate fire extinguisher to put out all the economic fires surrounding it, the rest of us continue to look for a way up….on a down escalator.

Our President-elect, of course, is hard at it to come up with a variety of emergency measures, hoping these will sufficiently shore up our economic levees, and hold things together, until he actually takes over the Oval Office. The team he’s picked to do that is definitely one of pragmatism, not ideology. Which gives us all a glimmer of hope that such efforts won’t end up to be shoveling sand against a really ripping tide.

The ripple effects from all these deflating bubbles are definitely worrisome. Things may reach a point where, no matter how or what might be done to counter such deflation, we’re still likely to end up treading water, just to stay afloat, and for some time as well.

While by nature I tend towards optimism, the scene surrounding us suggests we’re in for even harder economic knocks, before anything will get better. So the smart thing to do is to just fort up, hunker down, and be prepared to do whatever it takes to preserve whatever is left of our individual economic situations. Our pots may end up being barely big enough to pee in, but at least they will still be our pots. Beyond that…. we’ll just have to do the best we can with whatever we’ve got.

The important thing is to believe that, tomorrow, we’ll again have well filled balloons instead of bubbles…. to play with.

Meanwhile, brothers, can you spare a dime?
