THE CENTURION CHRONICLE
Special Issue – May 2009
ODE FOR ALL OUR POLITICIANS
They lure the best and brightest of our youths
Into the structured barbarisms of war,
With gilded promises of honor they’ll never keep,
As the everlasting remembrance of a grateful nation.
And mindless youth heeds such calls to arms,
Seduced, into believing it the grandest of adventures,
Traduced, into accepting such ritualized blood play,
As if reaping bright crimson blooms of gore,
Were an aphrodisiacal prize of finest hue.
Yet, with that insouciance of bright-eyed youth,
It still rushes headlong with eager haste to it.
Unknowing that, in reality, it’s only fighting old men’s wars,
Which always, always, leads it to the dark oblivion of death,
As the cost for such an obscene monument to its lives,
Thereby leaving them purloined of any future deeds….or joys.
